Please see me Please see me Listen to me Fucking bleeding I thought I would never fear anymore But now I’m crying on the floor I’ve been broken to my core And the universe keeps on wanting more From me, I will never be free it seems The tears down my face, they continue to stream Keep cutting up my wrist to break the seams Release me from this nightmare, I want to dream It’s flooding again, now I cannot pretend I’m scared that it is finally the end But things keep happening on and on, I need help But how do I get it when I’m all by myself? Paranoid, empty shell Fill the void with a firey hell Is it a warning from the universe? My whole life feels just like a curse I don’t understand why I deserve To feel so much pain when I just want to swerve Every decision made with best intention But the result leaves me just with rumination Terrified of taking the wrong turn Make a mistake and never learn I want to spread my wings like a moth and yearn Retreat into the night, never return Is it real responsibility? I can’t discern Thought the bridge had fallen, broken and burned The past still returns and I cannot cope Paralysing my mind and I’ve lost hope Please see me Please see me Listen to me Fucking bleeding

about

In response to the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, 4000 Records has curated a collection of (mostly) previously unreleased music with the singular purpose to raise funds to help people who lack access to enough food, shelter and medical care.

The conflict in the Middle East has unearthed an enormous weight of complex historical and social issues. Media coverage, analysis and opinion so quickly strays into the weeds making it near-impossible to feel anything but powerless. Yet despite this weight, and despite distance and relative privilege, we see solidarity in our communities. They unite, using the power they do have, to protest the humanitarian crisis that exists because of this conflict. Some will rally, some will petition politicians, some will boycott companies to oppose their involvement, some will directly amplify the voices of the victims of this conflict, and some will make Art.

Music has the power to unite, transform, and bond us to a common cause. The artists on this compilation subscribe to a stance of non-violence and anti-war, and believe in the sanctity of an innocent life, and present these works in that context. As such, 100% of all funds generated from this collection will be donated to MAP (Medical Aid for Palestinians).

Mediterranean Sea photographed on expired Kodak Portra 35mm with a Canon A1 in 2022.

About the cover photo:
Walking by the sea, feeling the salty breeze on your face, and being enveloped in its waves, is a privilege. Driving to the sea, unhindered by military checkpoints, is a privilege. Sitting on the sand with any friends you choose, rather than being dependent on their national ID status, is a privilege. Waking up in your house by the sea is a privilege, when others only hold keys of their ancestral homes they have been forcibly removed from 75 years ago. When you reach the Mediterranean Sea, it is finally a breathing space. It’s air you haven’t been able to breathe as you anxiously crisscrossed the land. For most Palestinians living in the West Bank, the sea is unreachable, inaccessible due to the Israeli occupation. For Palestinians living in the Gaza Strip, the sea marks another barrier to their freedom, as the Israeli occupation maintains a land, air and sea blockade. Fishermen are even restricted with how far they can travel out by boat, limited to six nautical miles in some areas.

Water in itself, is used as a weapon of war, not just due to its use and necessity for drinking and hygiene, but also the resources within it to be reaped such as salt and gas. For years now, after living in Palestine, I have approached the sea differently. I urge you to as well. The sea, the ocean, rivers, waterfalls, springs, wells, hydration, sanitation, cooking, fishing, minerals, are all a privilege to hold when from some they are stolen, colonised, weaponised, leaving the rightful caretakers dispossessed. When you next reach the sea, enter full of gratitude, embrace its healing and breathe in deeply the crystal air.
